Vanden High’s women’s tennis team retains exclusive possession of the former – The Vacaville Reporter

Vanden High’s women’s tennis team beat Rodriguez 8-1 on Tuesday and retained exclusive possession of the first place in the Monticello Empire League.

“We played our best game of the season today throughout the roster,” Vikings coach Stan Lewis said. “The first five singles played extremely efficient and patient tennis today which allowed us to build up a 5-0 lead early on and take a lot of pressure off our other four matches and allow our doubles to play freely. I am really proud of the effort all my athletes put in today in very hot weather against a very good Rodriguez team.

The victory was special for Lewis, who earned his 600th career coaching victory in his 30th year as a tennis coach. It is now 600-208.

“Without a doubt, most of these victories have come alongside my assistant coach Richard Vaiuso over the past 21 years,” he said.

In singles, Maya Khanna (6-3, 6-2), Sasha Smith (6-2, 6-2), Delaney Ramsell (6-2, 7-5), Camille Arca (6-0, 6-0) , Jasmine Yabut (6-1, 7-5) and Janelle DeLaCruz (6-2, 2-6, 7-5) all won.

In doubles, the teams of Danali Hardwick / Kaylani Payne (0-6, 7-5, 10-8) and Kasmi Onwuazombe / Kalyse Payne (6-3, 6-0) both won.
