BAGESHWAR: A video of students allegedly screaming and rolling on the floor at a public school in Raikholi area of ​​Bageshwar district is widely circulating on social media.
Teachers, unaware of the reason for the behavior, are fumbling for answers to the “strange turn of events on their school premises” while parents are also very worried.
“About 15 girls from the school have been behaving in a strange way for two days. They are shaking, untangling their hair and screaming wildly. This mass hysteria has caused panic in the neighborhood,” said a local resident. .
There have been bizarre scenes in the school since Wednesday morning, another resident said, adding that videos of “young girls acting like they were possessed scared us all”.
District Director of Education Gajendra Son said, “We have received reports from local residents that several female students between the ages of 11 and 16 have fainted after displaying abnormal behavior. A medical team will arrive soon to meet these girls.
Son added that he raised the issue with CMO Sunita Tamta. A few officials visited the school for inspection on Thursday, he added.
A parent of one of the affected girls said, “I just hope my daughter hasn’t been possessed by an evil spirit. We are all very worried and praying that my daughter and the other girls will recover soon. Incidentally, similar cases of students behaving in this way had also come to light in Almora and Nainital schools in the past.
