Photos show 25-year history of Boeing business jets

2021 marks the 25th anniversary of Boeing Business Jets, launched in 1996. The company has a long history of manufacturing aircraft for commercial and private use, but has ultimately combined the two products into one official line of business jets.

In 1930, Standard Oil of California, now known as Chevron, ordered a specially modified three-engine Model 80A, or Model 226, to transport its executives from town to town. The Model 80 was Boeing’s first aircraft designed for passenger operations.

After nearly 70 years of converting airliners into business jets for corporations, government departments and individuals, Boeing has set out to create a series of large, customizable aircraft for the corporate market.

In addition to narrow-body planes, Boeing has also created wide-body business jets, most notably the BBJ 777 and 777X which can connect virtually any two cities in the world.
