More showers and thunderstorms in the forecast

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The possibility of showers and thunderstorms on the coastal curve continues to exist today as an abundance of tropical moisture from the Gulf collides with upper-level support that moves from the ‘Where is.

The result was a few strong thunderstorms that visited us yesterday, especially around the Odem area which picked up around 2-4 inches in some spots.

This morning we are watching for a cluster of showers and storms that have spread from parts of the Hill Country to San Antonio and spread to our northern counties and to the Victoria junction.

Expect some of the activity to spill over into Corpus Christi this morning and continue to be isolated to scattered throughout the day today. Small Craft Advisories are posted for Gulf waters until 8 a.m. There is also a risk of moderate reverse current.

The thunderstorm activity will be accompanied by heavy showers, strong winds and the possibility of large hail. While the Storm Prediction Center has a marginal risk of severe weather just outside the region, we might see a thunderstorm or two turn severe. The 6WEATHER team will monitor this risk closely and cover any watches and warnings that may be issued.

A second high altitude disturbance to the west will plunge toward Texas for the end of the week and send another round of showers and thunderstorms likely on Friday and Saturday. Some of these items may impact Friday night football matches in the area.

Rain amounts of 1 to 3 inches will be common, but there will be isolated areas that could take around 4 to 5 inches before all is said and done.

By Sunday and Monday, precipitation will start to decrease and we will start to dry out by the middle of next week. Until then, have the umbrella on standby and be careful on the roads in the area which can accumulate due to the high rainfall rates.
