A Melbourne lawyer and former university professor has been charged with possession of child pornography and drug offenses after detectives from Victoria Police and Australian Federal Police raided his CBD rooms .
Members of the Joint Child Exploitation Team arrested Harlis Kirimof last Thursday after executing a warrant at his office in Owen Dixon Chambers West on Lonsdale Street.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman has confirmed a 33-year-old man has been charged with possession of child pornography and an addiction drug.
Kirimof will appear in court on October 28.
A spokesman for the Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner said the board was aware of the charges but would not say whether Kirimof would be allowed to continue practicing.
Kirimof was called to the Victoria Bar as a practicing solicitor in 2013. According to an online profile, he specializes in civil and commercial law and has practiced in state and federal courts, including the Federal Court and the High Court. supreme of Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia.
“Harlis has been a part-time lecturer, primarily in equity law, tax law and the law of evidence,” reads his profile on the Victorian Bar’s website.
He had previously worked as a lecturer at Swinburne University and Deakin University.
