COLFAX — On Friday, deputies from the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an incident of domestic violence that included assaults and threats of bodily harm. During the investigation, the victim told police that the suspect pointed a handgun at her and at some point threatened to kill her.
Deputies were told the incident happened at a store on Garfield Farmington Road, just outside Farmington.
According to the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office, deputies then requested and obtained a search warrant for the residence where the incident allegedly took place. During service of the warrant, deputies made contact with the suspect, identified as 47-year-old Michael Joseph Keller, who was taken into custody at the time.
Deputies searched the property and found 14 firearms and thousands of cartridges. One of the firearms found matched the description of the handgun allegedly used in the assault. Investigators were able to confirm that Keller is a convicted felon who is incapable of legally possessing firearms.
Keller was jailed for 2nd degree assault-domestic violence and 14 counts of unlawful possession of a firearm. He is due to appear in court for the first time on Monday afternoon.
