Ballston Spa Hannaford recalls ground beef sold on Sunday – The Daily Gazette

BALLSTON SPA – Hannaford has issued a recall on 81% ground beef at the Via Rossi Way store in Ballston Spa.

Hannaford announced the recall on Sunday after discovering that some of the ground beef sold that day “may contain foreign objects.” Hannaford Supermarkets’ external communications manager, Caitlin Cortelyou, explained on Monday that the foreign material that may have been in the product was plastic packaging.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the Hannaford store at 3 Via Rossi Way in Ballston Spa, NY recalled 81% of ground beef purchased from the store between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday August 21 with a sell by/use by date of August 24, 2022 as the product may contain plastic packaging,” Cortelyou said.

Anyone who has purchased the recalled product should not eat it. Hannaford advised customers to check if they have the product.

“We recommend that customers check their storage and freezer areas for this product and not eat the product,” Cortelyou said. “The impacted product or its packaging can be returned to the store for a full refund.”

The recall affects a limited amount of products, Cortelyou said. She explained that all potentially affected products have been removed from store shelves and no injuries or illnesses have been reported in connection with the product.

Store management declined to comment on the recall on Monday. They recommended that reporters call their company’s phone number.

The recall applies to one store only, previous ground beef recalls at other individual stores are reported on Hannaford’s website. According to the site, there have been nine ground beef recalls across New York, Vermont and Maine in the past three years. Some of these recalls were because the product may contain foreign matter, possibly metal flakes or polystyrene or because the product did not meet Hannaford standards. None of the other individual store recalls on the site took place at the Via Rossi Way location. The recalls listed on the website date back to 2016.

The majority of product recalls listed on the Hannaford website are due to item recalls by manufacturers, suppliers and product companies, and are part of a national or statewide product. Hannaford’s website states, “Hannaford works closely with suppliers and government agencies to ensure the food we transport is safe.” According to Hannaford’s website, any product sold by Hannaford that has been recalled by the producer is removed from its shelves.
